Hamilton’s “Lock Artist” was named the best mystery novel and Allyn’s story, “The Scent of Lilacs” which appeared in the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine was selected as “best short story”. Hamilton won previously for “best first mystery”, “A Cold Day in Paradise”. He has written seven novels featuring the Yooper Detective Alex McNight which are set in the Sault area. The southeast Michigan native is a huge fan of the Red Wings, Tigers and Wolverines.
“The Lock Artist” is about an 18 year old young man from Milford MI who can pick locks like no one else, but when organized crime is put in the mix the question is whether he will survive.
Doug Allyn who was born in Bay City and lived in the Flint area for awhile is the author of a combination of eight novels and collections of short stories.
