“Stop cutting the trees” -Lorax

The Lorax is coming. The Lorax is coming. A film adaptation of “The Lorax” by Theodore Seuss Geisel also known as Dr. Seuss will be in theatres across the country starting March 2. Oddly enough, “The Lorax” has been on many banned books lists and most people don’t have a clue why. Read it from the perspective of a forest industry executive and you’ll understand. Cutting down trees polluting the air and water is not a message they like to hear, Humming-Fish and Truffula trees aside. Read an article in the USA Today about why The Lorax written in 1971 is still controversial.

It’s unlikely they will be out picketing the movie, but they will be miffed. The movie also creates a love interest for the young boy named Ted in the book. I wonder what Seuss would’ve thought about a movie based on his book costing more than $70 million and with a love interest besides? Gosh oh golly Ms. Molly.

On Friday March 2, Schulers Books in the Eastwood Towne Center Lansing will host a special event in honor of Dr. Seuss which is being held in conjunction with Read Across America. Read Across America is always held on Seuss’ birthday of March 2. There will be a reading of Seuss books and Cat in the Hat will be on the scene for photos. All Seuss titles will be sold at a buy two get one free promotion.

The event is being held at the Eastwood Towne Center Schulers at 11 a.m. Friday March 2.
