Michigan author travels to tell a family’s story of facing Alzheimers head on
Mary Ellen Geist made one of the hardest and the easiest decisions of her life about four years ago when she gave up a successful broadcasting career to return home to Michigan to help her mother care for her father who has Alzheimers.
As part therapy, part a need to understand the disease and part wanting to share a common story she wrote the book “Measure of the Heart” which has been selected as a 2009 Michigan Notable Book of the Year.
Geist was suprised at the national attention her father’s story and the book has received including a front page story in the New York Times which you can read by clicking here. She also was featured on the NPR Diane Rehm Show and continues to share her time talking with groups and appearing at book signings and readings. Listen to her interview with Diane by clicking here.
Most recently she authored an article which will appear in the April edition of Prevention Magazine which you can read by clicking here. To learn more about the book and Mary Ellen Geist click here.
